Sault Roller Girls was founded by Elora Nelson in July 2007. With the help of a few dedicated girls, sitting around a coffee shop, the league was formed. We are bringing fun, attitude, and skating to the Sault via roller derby, a fast growing sport with new leagues popping up all over Canada. With our league being the first league formed in Northern Ontario, we hope we inspire other Northern cities to start their own leagues.
Our league is still pretty new, but we can see that the community's interest is there as we now have enough members to form one team and we are looking for more! We are currently recruiting fresh meat (term used in roller derby for new people), and hope to be able to continue growing over the summer months. In addition to skating, the ladies will be taking an active role in the community, by donating time, money and media promotion to a range of charitable causes. The League fosters a strong sense of sportswomanship and encourages each member to take an active role in the decision making process, as well as promoting exercise of both body and mind. Who Are We?
Our current roster includes women between the ages of 18 and 45 (there is no age limit on fun). We are mothers, grandmothers, wives, students, teachers, full-time employees; we are women of many hats, even red ones. Some of us have never skated before, some of us just haven't since our youth, but we are all new to the sport of flat track roller derby! Sault Roller Girls Requirments
